Psechrid Spider (Psechrus sp.)

Builds a three-dimensional web with a tent in the centre and a funnel-like retreat at one end. Hangs upside-down under the tent and escapes quickly into the retreat when disturbed.

Egg-sacs are carried with the jaws of the mother.

Psechrids are long-legged spiders with cribellum and calamistrum. The cribellum is a cigar-shaped plate on the underside of the abdomen, in front of the spinnerets. The upper margin of the second last segment (metatarsus) of the fourth leg is armed with a row of strongly curved spines known collectively as the calamistrum. The legs have three claws and have a tuft of hairs under the third claw.

The two genera in the family can be distinguished by the markings on the underside of the abdomen. In Psechrus, it has a white line in the middle. In Fecenia, the underside of the abdomen has a dark band which is constricted in the centre by a pair of white patches.
