Ant mimic sac spider by melvynyeo Ant mimic sac spider by melvynyeo
Sac spider with unknown prey (probably an ant). Taken at night in Singapore forest.

Quote from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sac_spid…
The sac spiders of the family Clubionidae[2] have a very confusing taxonomic history. Once this family was a large catch-all taxon for a disparate collection of spiders, similar only in that they had eight eyes arranged in two rows,[3] conical anterior spinnerets that touched and were wandering predators that built silken retreats, or sacs, usually on plant terminals, between leaves, under bark or under rocks. These are now recognized to include several families, some of which are more closely related to the three-clawed spiders, like lynx and wolf spiders, than to true "clubionoids.

I have nightmares about spiders, yet i dare come here, i guess my drive to overcome my fears is stronger than running away from them! :godno:

What lense do you use, and how do you manage to get this close, i got an 100mm L series macro lense from canon and a 70D, but i cant seem to get this close to small creatures.

i use 100L + 21mm Tubes + Raynox closeup filter. This gives me a working distance of 4cm.... about 2.5x magnification.

It's taken at night.... With a background close enough, in this case a tree trunk, the photos will be evenly light up if your diffuser is big enough. If there are no background, the photo BG will be black. This is true even for daytime if i use full flash (no ambient light).

For night shoot, a headlamp or a strong torchlight is important. Also you will be to mount a torch on your camera to aid your focusing. Other than that, i think its also impt to exercise caution since it will be very dark :)
